Two stocks with their own bad news fell sharply on Thursday even as the broader market steadied.

FMC

FMC, the agricultural chemicals maker, cut its third-quarter outlook. It now expects revenue of $65 million to $125 million and an adjusted EBITDA loss of $510 million to $565 million, which includes about $625 million to $675 million of charges from lowering prices on some products held by distributors (FMC). CEO Pierre Brondeau said demand was weaker than expected and that distributors were holding higher-priced FMC products that were limiting replenishment orders. Investing.com said FMC expects to stay within its financial covenants as of September 30 but plans to talk with its banks about possible changes. Full third-quarter results are due October 29. Reuters said the shares were down more than 31% at midday, after a steeper drop before the open.

Rocket Lab

Rocket Lab said late Wednesday that the first launch of its Neutron rocket slips to 2027 (Yahoo Finance, Investor's Business Daily). CEO Peter Beck blamed manufacturing issues in the forward propellant dome on the first stage and said, "Possible success isn't our standard," according to Yahoo Finance, which cited Stocktwits. Yahoo said the shares fell more than 14% in early trading after a 7.9% drop on Wednesday; Reuters had them down 10.9% at midday.
