Crude: oil swings and ends near $104

Oil fell early on Friday after President Trump said the US would not attack Iran before the November 3 midterms, then recovered. The AP reported Brent ranged between $102.50 and $105 and settled at $104.72, up 0.4%; the settlement is reported by the AP, not independently confirmed here. The National and Anadolu Agency had Brent near $102.80 earlier in the session and heading for a weekly gain. For Thursday's jump, see our oil story.

Chain: bitcoin holds near $82,600

Bitcoin traded near $82,600 to $82,700 late Friday afternoon (Monica Markets, ZebPay, CoinDesk), after touching about $80,300 on Thursday. CoinDesk put it about 4% lower on the week and ether about 9% lower. Levels differ a little by source. Full story.

Chips: the rebound faded

Chip stocks bounced in the morning after Thursday's OpenAI revenue report selloff, but Barron's reported the PHLX Semiconductor Index was down 0.4% as the Nasdaq rose, and Nvidia closed down about 0.5% at $229.28 by one quote page.
