Five things to know before the open.

1. Futures are mixed as AI worries linger

U.S. stock index futures were mixed at 6:21 AM ET, with Dow futures up 0.39%, S&P 500 futures up 0.16% and Nasdaq 100 futures down 0.08%, as technology stocks came under fresh pressure (Reuters). CoreWeave slipped about 4% premarket after Thursday's rebound on lingering debt worries, and Micron fell 1.7% and Broadcom 0.4% (Reuters). Tesla rose about 4.4% after unveiling a redesigned Roadster (Reuters), and Investopedia put the gain near 5%. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq were set for weekly losses, while the Dow was on track for a weekly gain (Reuters, Investopedia). See our Tesla story, chip stocks story and last night's Dusk Ledger.

2. Asia rebounds, Indonesia plunges

Japan's Nikkei 225 closed up 1.4% and South Korea's Kospi up 2.1% after Thursday's rout, AFP reported. Reuters said Indonesia's benchmark fell about 11%, its biggest one-day drop since 1998, after MSCI said the market no longer merits "emerging market" status. More in our Asia story.

3. Warsh gives no hint, and Fed odds ease

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh declined to say what the Fed will do at its meeting later this month, saying "I don't prejudge meetings" (CNBC). Investopedia said CME FedWatch showed about a 15% chance of an October hike after his remarks, down from 28% the day before, and Goldman Sachs economists wrote that the Fed looks set to pause in October (CNBC). Reuters said markets increasingly expect a hold this month. The 10-year Treasury yield was around 5.10% (Investopedia). Full story: Warsh gives no hint on October.

4. Regional banks report

Truist reported adjusted earnings of $1.16 a share, above the $1.14 analysts expected, but revenue missed estimates because of a $1.45 billion loss on securities sales, and its shares were down about 2.5% premarket (Investing.com). Citizens Financial earned an adjusted $1.41 a share against $1.39 expected, with revenue of $2.32 billion just under the $2.34 billion estimate, and its shares fell about 5.4% premarket (Investing.com). Regions Financial earned an adjusted $0.73 a share against $0.66 expected, on revenue of $1.97 billion against a $1.99 billion forecast (Investing.com). M&T said it earned $775 million, or $5.04 a share (M&T press release), and Travelers said core income rose 13% to $9.18 per diluted share (Seeking Alpha). Premarket moves can change by the open.

Oil edged lower, with Brent above $105 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate near $97.5 (Investopedia).
